The Somali Diaspora Youth (SDY) would like to invite students, young professionals and those who work with the youth. The overarching theme for this year’s conference is:

BRIDGING THE GAP: COMMUNITY CONVERSATION ON MENTAL HEALTH

Embedded in this overarching theme is the urgency to focus on solutions as we come and work together and put forward concerted efforts to address community issues in general, and health challenges in particular.  In this event, the participants will partake and lead discussions and listen to each other and experts on topics pertaining to various issues of importance and pertinent to Somali community as a whole.

Bridging the Gap: Community Conversation on Mental Health would have the following sub-themes and/or streams

  1. Activism
  2. Trauma
  3. Identity crisis
  4. Cultural taboos
  5. Societal pressures
  6. Addictions
  7. Empowerment

Topics in the above sub-themes and streams will enhance our understanding of issues and challenges facing Somali Diaspora youth, families and community at large; and explore how to change these challenges into feasible opportunities and solutions.
